ROOM: Room 10 – Anasazi
This workshop will be led by Dr. Sonja Jo Serna, the Senior Multimedia Specialist with the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, at New Mexico State University. We designed this workshop to engage both the novice and intermediate social media users. Attendees of this workshop will learn to understand several social media platforms, and when to use them. The workshop begins with an in-depth explanation of several popular media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, news feeds, and others. We will discuss social media platforms, outreach, and marketing guidelines. We will explore how to choose the appropriate platform for your information type and timeline. This first section of the workshop is for those that have yet to use a social media platform or feel like the performance of their platform is not efficient. We will also discuss and explore how to best use each platform to outreach to different demographics. For the next section of the workshop, we will delve deeper into these media platforms, learning basic tasks and tricks designed to boost your outreach performance, such as pushing media through several platforms with one post. Workshop attendees should bring their mobile devices or tablets to practice these advanced features on their media platforms. Finally, attendees will share their experiences and apprehensions in a group Q&A session.
