Effective communication skills are integral to managing complex issues at the interface of animal and human health. Yet there are few professional training opportunities for how to communicate about wildlife health issues. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore several key considerations for communicating about wildlife health issues including: navigating human perceptions of wildlife; creating meaningful relationships with stakeholders; managing audience emotions regarding wildlife health issues; and using multiple media to communicate with a diverse audience. Workshop speakers will share how they have used these techniques to address risk communication in their work. Participants will have the opportunity to apply these tools by working in groups to create a risk communication plan for a wildlife health issue.
